Glad it helped! PluralEyes is great, but it’s nice to not have to deal with at all. I haven’t done a rigorous comparison of using in-camera vs the actual H4n files. It’s nice to be able to have a backup on the H4n, though, in case something weird happens, or even if you just want to strip to the audio for nat sound or something.

Anyway, it’s possible the 5D2′s preamp is still degrading the signal a bit, but by turning them almost all the way down, it’s pretty good.

If you run Magic Lantern, having the on-screen meters is nice as you get a visual representation without taking your eyes of the screen.

Thanx SO much for this article!! I am shocked about how little info I could find on this. It seems some jobs now require a CF Card to be handed over to a client on the spot. No time for Pluralizing later.
I’m going to test this and let you know how it goes. I assume that the audio would basically be the same as if it were being mixed in later? As long as the levels and settings were correct?

I get an “Err 02″ sometimes. I usually can pop the card out and back in and it’s fine. Once, the whole camera locked up and wouldn’t turn off, even with the card and battery doors open. Removing the battery obviously turned it off.

It tends to happen when the buffer is full. I try to be conservative on the motor drive to avoid that. For what it’s worth, I usually shoot sRAW1 (10mp) and smallest fine JPEG with it. Obviously not an ideal all-around solution.

Except if you have a 1D III or IV. Then you can write large JPEG or RAW to the CF, and small JPG to the SD.

I was actually able to finally get it working, only to have it constantly tell me the card needs to be formatted every few pics. I’m attempting to update my firmware on the 7D to see if that helps…

I assume you’ve got Direct Mode enabled and the iPhone/iPad set to receive media (only one can at a time, though), and all that. The cards are kind of touch-and-go, but one thing that seems to help is to have some network added, despite not wanting to use it. You can add a dummy one and tell the Eye-Fi software it’s “Not in Range” to force it to add it. Let me know if that works.

bought the same card, but cannot get direct mode to work. both ipad and iphone just spin trying to connect while card is in computer. When I take the card out and put it in the adapter and camera (7D), the Eye-fi network disappears. Any thoughts?
